For the first time since 1971, Breckenridge opened a new base area in 2008. The Peak 7 base area has high-end lodging at Crystal Peak Lodge and a new connection between the town and mountain with a mass transit system via the BreckConnect gondola. It also includes ski schools and dining. 

Breckenridge events take place all year. Just prior to Christmas, Breckenridge Ski Resort hosts the AST Winter Dew Tour, which will be televised on NBC. It consists of three major, multi-sport events with a $1.5 million purse. Activities include skiing and snowboarding for both men and women.
