In the mid 1800’s, miners discovered copper in Summit County, Colorado. Through the years, the beautiful surrounding area was promoted as a fishing and horseback riding retreat. In 1971, Chuck Lewis, Copper Mountain’s founding father, negotiated a purchase of 280 acres to build a ski resort. Over time, new lifts have been added and Copper has grown to its current size of 2,433 acres. What was once a sleepy little ski area is now one of Colorado’s premier destination resorts.
